When I was running for Denver District Attorney, I developed a policy platform to improve the office. I still believe in those ideas, and I will continue to work to implement them. This page documents the policy ideas that I believe are most central to improving and running the Denver District Attorney's Office:

We must work to improve our justice system without losing sight of its central purpose: keeping our community safe.

I believe we use data and innovation to create a safer, more equitable Denver. We can do that by using data from past cases to analyze outcomes to help guide and improve future results. But administering justice is only one function of the Denver District Attorney. The Denver D.A. must also serve as a voice of leadership, listening to constituents, and ensuring that all members of the community are protected.

Building a More Equitable and Effective
Criminal Justice System

By using data analytics, we can improve our justice system, leading to better results and more equitable treatment for all. I want to build a system that examines cases to see what has worked in the past. We can then use that information to guide prosecutors as they seek to do the right thing in the future. An evidence based justice system can help build a safer community by leading to better outcomes for victims and offenders. This system will also promote equality by helping eliminate historical disparities among racial and other minority groups.

Serving as a Voice of Leadership Within the Community

One of the primary roles of a District Attorney is to serve as a leader of the criminal justice system. The Denver District Attorney provides an essential voice, leading positive change in criminal justice agencies, coordinating efforts among governmental partners, and advocating for better policies. I want to make sure all parts of our criminal justice system are working together to enforce the law and achieve justice for the people of Denver.

Increasing Transparency and Communication

Public servants must always listen to their constituents and respond to their needs. The District Attorney's Office has a duty to listen and respond to the people of the City and County of Denver. The D.A.'s Office must also continue to publish detailed information about its work and practices.

Protecting the Vulnerable

The Denver District Attorney's Office must maintain a strong sense of values to guide its efforts. Protecting the vulnerable means ensuring violent and repeat offenders are prosecuted, guns are taken off the streets, disadvantaged populations are protected, rehabilitation is utilized whenever possible, and all are treated with dignity and respect.
