Why I Support John Walsh for Denver District Attorney

This past September, I joined the race for Denver District Attorney to help build a safer and more equitable Denver.

That meant using evidence to improve our justice system, listening to the community's input when shaping policies, and ensuring that the Denver D.A. was a leader in the community. I still believe those policies are essential to improving the City and County of Denver, but I ultimately concluded I didn't need stay in the D.A.'s race to make them happen.

That's why I've ended my candidacy for Denver D.A., and I've endorsed John Walsh. John is a proven leader and a talented prosecutor. He has the experience to bring new leadership to Denver’s criminal justice system while continuing to improve the Denver D.A.’s Office. I am confident that he will increase the use of data analysis in our work and find new ways to gather input from the community as we work together to make Denver safer. I can think of no one better and no one more qualified to step in to take the D.A.’s Office to new heights.

Gathering the resources and support needed for a successful city-wide campaign in Denver is a full-time job, and I couldn’t step away from my current role – as a Chief Deputy District Attorney with the Denver D.A.’s Office – to devote all my time to the race. As the campaign progressed, I realized I just didn’t have the time and resources to be competitive in this race. After I had a chance to sit down with John Walsh and talk to him about his vision for the office, the similarities between our platforms, and his willingness to use data as an innovative tool to improve prosecution, I decided that the best use of my time and efforts was to support his candidacy.

I am eternally grateful to everyone who helped me with my campaign, including the dozens who donated to my campaign, took the time to talk with me, offered advice, and showed me how to be a better and more effective candidate. Trust that while I have bowed out of this race, I fully intend to continue to serve the People of the City and County of Denver and the State of Colorado.
